Most of our timber comes from softwood, it has a wide range of uses from building components, windows, doors and furniture etc.
*Pitch Pine
Pitch Pine is a soft wood however it really should be classed as hardwood as it is extremely strong. The tree is used to produce pitch - resin, tar, or bitumen for industry.
Pitch Pine can be caustic dipped however there is a risk of colour change and wood furring.

Wood grain furring occurs when going through the paint stripping process.
Wood that has previously been varnished will tend to fur more.
The fur is caused by the grain opening creating a velvet like surface.
Grain furring will differ depending on how the wood has been washed after stripping.
High pressure will cause more furring.
AN EFFECTIVE WAY TO REMOVE GRAIN FURRING
- Allow the wood to COMPLETELY DRY
- Dilute a light varnish or sanding sealer
- Paint or spray over the affected area
- Lightly sand off
The alternative is to just sand the wood.
It is very important NOT to attempt to sand damp wood. The surface must always be COMPLETELY DRY
Start sanding using a course grade sandpaper and work up to a finer grade.
PLEASE NOTE: This method is more time consuming and there is a possibility of causing damage with course sandpaper.

LARGE EXTERNAL AREAS
The Importance of Doing a Test Patch
A test patch is important when tackling a large area. You get the feel for the product. How much product to use and the time it takes to strip. In the long run this will save you time, effort and money.
ALWAYS do a test patch in an inconspicuous place never in the middle.
Coatings Vary
- Thickness coating
- Type coatings
- Age of coatings
Temperature Matters
The weather will be a factor when using products outside. Don’t start your job when it is windy, raining or cold. Use when the temperature is above 10°C it works better in warmer weather, however too hot will start to dry the product out.
Interior paint stripping will also be affected by severe cold or extremely hot temperatures.
All of the above will affect how much product you need to use and how long your item will take to strip.
Apply Enough Product
It can be a costly mistake to spread the product too thin. The correct application is extremely important. Always apply a generous even coat, it will NOT work effectively if too thin a coat of paint stripper is applied, it will dry out. Multi layers can take from 90 minutes to overnight, if leaving Enviromose on for a long period of time, cover with plastic, anything from old tarpaulin to plastic sheeting, this will allow the product to stay on the substrate longer without the risk of drying out, allowing it to penetrate through the layers. Should you ever need to add more, add another coat on the top do not remove and reapply this will slow down the process and waste product and time.
When to Remove
Check a small area for penetration to see if it is ready to remove. Removing the product before it’s had chance to penetrate the bottom layers will result in re-applying wasting product and time.
The secret to effective paint stripping is let the paint stripper do the work NOT YOU!
Important
Read through all of the instructions before commencing.
Never Apply too Little
The correct application is important. Do not try to spread the product too far as this will result in poor penetration, always apply generous even coats, too thin a coat of paint stripper will only remove some of the surface and you will risk it drying out.
Never Allow to Dry Out
To prevent drying out re-apply product if necessary, do not remove the first coat, add more on top. Your item must be wet with paint stripper at all times.
Let the Paint Stripper do the Work
Once your item is thickly coated, leave the paint stripper to penetrate through the layers, don’t scrape and scrub. Scrapping away the product before it’s had chance to penetrate the bottom layers will result in re-applying wasting product and time.
When to Remove
Only scrape the softened paint/varnish off when you are down to the substrate (wood, metal etc) check a small area for penetration to see if it is ready to remove.
Coatings Vary
- Thickness of paint or varnish
- Type of paint of laquer
- Oven baked coatings
- Modern lacquers
- UV Damaged coatiings
Lacquers
Some lacquers can be difficult to remove and only go soft, to help remove , it can be scrubbed off wood or metal with a STAINLESS STEEL pan scrub. IMPORTANT It has to be a steel scrub as this won’t mark the substrate. Do not use WIRE WOOL.
Temperature Matters
The weather will be a factor when using products outside. Don’t start your job when it is windy. Do not apply during rain or if rain is forecast within the application period. Use when the temperature is between 10°C and 30 °C. Paint stripper works better in warmer weather, however too hot will start to dry the product out.
Interior paint stripping will also be affected by severe cold or extremely hot temperatures.

Alloys and aluminium if leaving for long periods test a small area first.
How does Non Methylene Chloride differ in use to Methylene Chloride?
- Opaque gel consistency to aid visibility and application to vertical surfaces
- Slower evaporation and hence longer stripping time
- Does not initially blister the paint and flash off
- Activates a chemical reaction, which continues through several layers of paint
- Less need for re-application.
Is it Hazards?
Always ventilate the area well, and wear suitable protective clothing, goggles and gloves. The product is not hazardous if sensible precautions are taken. Remember to protect all surrounding areas before commencing work. When using externally protect grass, always protect surround areas.

What tips can you give me for best performance?
- Never Apply Too Litttle: The correct application is important. Do not try to spread the product too far as this will result in poor penetration, always apply generous even coats, too thin a coat of paint stripper will only remove some of the surface and you will risk it drying out.
- Never Allow To Dry Out: To prevent drying out re-apply product if necessary, do not remove the first coat, add more on top. Your item must be wet with paint stripper at all times. You can cover with plastic to prevent drying.
- Let The Paint Stripper Do The Work: Once your item is thickly coated, allow the paint stripper to do its work, do not try to remove too quickly, leave the paint stripper to penetrate through the layers, don’t scrape and scrub. Scrapping away the product before it’s had chance to penetrate the bottom layers will result in re-applying wasting product and time.
For Driveways or heavily coated items we recommend covering and leaving overnight use plastic, bin liners, tarpaulin etc to prevent drying.
To Determine Working Times
To establish correct removal timings, suitability and compatibility, always test an inconspicuous area before use.
- Create 6 small test samples of no more than 50mm round with the liquid generously applied.
- Apply the 6 samples at the same time - spaced sufficiently apart to allow individual washing and removal.
- Remove 1 sample at a time, at 30 minute intervals.
- This will give you the correct timing for the product; whichever sample is perfectly clean after washing - This is the timing you will need for the whole area.
Apply a generous even coat 4mm thick, do not brush out.
What do I do if I have to leave overnight?
Cover with plastic sheeting to protect.
When to Remove
Only scrape the softened paint/varnish off when you are down to the substrate (wood, metal, stone etc) check a small area for penetration to see if it is ready to remove.
How do I remove it? Used externally after the product has penetrated into the substrate, all the coating can be easily removed using a power washer. Alternatively, a stiff deck brush and running water can be used.
Used indoors a scraper and cloth can be used to remove the residue if required you can wipe down with water.
Lacquers
Some lacquers can be difficult to remove and only soften, to help remove, it can be scrubbed off wood or metal with a Stainless Steel pan scrub.
IMPORTANT: It It MUST be a steel scrub as this won’t mark the substrate. Do not use WIRE WOOL.
How do I clean brushes and other equipment? Wash immediately after use with soapy water.
Is the Smell unpleasant? The product has a very slight almond smell and is not considered unpleasant.
What about children and pets? The area being stripped should be protected and children and pets must be kept away from the Paint Remover.
Will it remove Graffiti? Yes, as long as the graffiti is on an unpainted surface.

A method frequently used is to remove the bulk of paint using a Hot Air Gun, followed by a paint stripper to remove the bottom remaining layer of paint.
We do not recommend this technique.
By heating up the paint you are releasing lead and toxins into the atmosphere.
This has been proven to have a detrimental effect on brain function especially in children.
Some UK councils are holding meetings considering whether to ban the use of Hot Air Paint Stripping Guns for use in the home.
Using a liquid paint stripper you are trapping the lead and toxins in the liquid, therefore, it is not being released into the atmosphere.
We recommend Paramose Industrial Paint and Varnish Remover – THICK
If you are sand or shot blasting, apply the paint stripper and allow to dry, this makes the lacquer brittle so it blasts off quicker.
If washing off, blast with a hot wash, the paint stripper must be left on a while, sometimes the lacquer only softens, using a STAINLESS STEEL scrub will help remove the softened lacquer.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT use a metal scrub this will cause damage to the surface.
DIY Use
We recommend Enviromose Pro Grade Paint Stripper.
Apply a very thick layer and leave for as long as possible up to 12 hours plus, press onto the surface plastic sheets to prevent any evaporation.
Wash off using a pressure washer or soap and water and a STAINLESS STEEL scrub.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT use a metal scrub this will cause damage to the surface.
Both products will work more efficiently in a warmer temperature.
