The market is flooded with paint strippers claiming how amazing they are, unfortunately we are hearing very different views.
The word Eco friendly and water based are ringing alarm bells as customers have spent a small fortune on paint strippers that simply don’t work.
Here is an example of an antique pitch pine pew in original varnish and 150 years of grime stripped using Enviromose.
I applied a thick coat and left for an hour, excess paint stripper scraped off and washed with a hot pressure washer.
Alternatively you could use a cold pressure washer or cold soapy water and a scrubbing brush, it is worth pointing out that cold water reduces the risk of grain furring.
Hot water opens the grain and pulls the dirt out of the wood, which I needed to do as the pew had such a build up of grime.
I then left the pew to dry for a couple of hours then sanded, sealed and waxed.
